Snipaya is an image annotator for Mac, made for screenshots. Paste, drop or open any image (PNG, JPEG and more), or capture with OptionShift4, place several side by side, join them with arrows and numbered steps, and blur secrets in one click. Or let your own AI assistant do it over MCP.
macOS 12 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel.
Snipaya reads the image on your Mac and checks every line against 217 patterns. One click covers what it finds, even when the text recognition mixes up a 0 and an O.
Dim the rest with S, draw the arrow with A, number it with N, explain it with K. Every mark stays editable until you export.
Drag over any text in an image and it is on your clipboard. No retyping stack traces or order IDs. Recognition runs offline.
Wrap the image in a background, padding, rounded corners and a shadow, so it reads as a picture in a doc rather than a crop.
Snipaya has no assistant inside it. It can run a local MCP server, and the assistant you already use, in its own separate app, connects to it to open images, redact, annotate and export.
Sixteen tools, each on one letter key. Hover or tab through them to see what each one draws.
Also in the app: tabs that come back after a restart, editable .snipaya project files, drag-out export, uploads to your own image host, and an admin policy file that limits where screenshots can go.
One license, no subscription, no tiers. Try it for 14 days first.

The capture keys sit next to the built-in macOS ones, so they never clash. You can change them in settings.

I wanted a screenshot tool that is fast, private and paid for once. So I built it. If something breaks, you are writing to me, not a ticket bot.
The two parts I use most: dropping several screenshots on one canvas to show a whole flow, and letting my own AI assistant drive Snipaya over MCP. It stays off until you turn it on, and it only listens on your own Mac.

No. You pay once and keep using the app. There are no recurring charges and no account to create.
Yes. Capture, editing, text recognition and redaction need no connection. The internet is only used for update checks and for uploads you start yourself.
English, Polski, Deutsch and Español. It follows your Mac's language, or you pick one in settings.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools on your computer. When you turn it on, Snipaya runs a small MCP server on your Mac, and an assistant running in its own app can open an image, add arrows, steps, text or blur, and export the result.
It is off by default, listens only locally, and requires an access token. Snipaya does not include or pay for an AI model; you use your own assistant.
Not unless you send them. Capturing, editing, OCR (via macOS Vision) and auto-redaction all run on device. Snipaya has no telemetry or analytics.
An image is uploaded only when you explicitly export it to an upload destination that you configured yourself, such as your own image host or issue tracker. The app checks for updates to keep itself current. Details are in the privacy policy.
Yes. If Snipaya is not for you, ask for a refund within 14 days of purchase and you will get your money back, no questions asked. See the refund policy.
